For studying the penetration of missiles through steel plates, sled tests were performed with a 1.5 scale model rocket. An impact velocity of 250 m/sec was required. The missile scale model was mounted on the sled which was accelerated on a 300 m long rail by two test rockets. The sled was decelerated by spurs plunging into sand before the end of the track, which caused the model to leave the sled and fly freely towards the target plate. Deceleration distance was 25 to 28 m.
