The operating plan, launch schedule, and flight plan are given for launching the INTELSAT V-8 satellite into a geostationary transfer orbit by an Ariane launch vehicle. The principal characteristics of the nominal trajectory, specifications relative to the launching base, and safety management are discussed. General information is included on the development and production of the first and subsequent Ariane launch vehicles. The Guyana space center and launching sites are described as well as the capabilities and components of the INTELSAT 5 series satellites.
