This series of teaching case studies and teaching notes examines budgeting and finance issues in the transit industry. The first case outlines the challenges faced by New York's Metropolitan Transportation Authority as it sought to secure the financial resources it needed to renovate Grand Central Terminal, a major railroad station and historic landmark in the center of midtown Manhattan. The second discusses fare options considered by New York's Metropolitan Transportation Authority. The third case examines the issues raised when the Pierce Transit, the transit agency in Pierce County, Washington must decide whether to contract out for express commuter bus service or provide the service in-house. The final case study reviews the development of Singapore's transit system.
