The report is a summary of the nature, accomplishments, and significance of three earlier reports on 'Residential Location and Urban Mobility.' It is concerned with the factors which influence choices concerning location of residences within metropolitan areas and the choice of transportation mode for the journey to work. Special emphasis is also placed on the analysis the automobile ownership and the total miles of travel by automobile. This report begins with an analysis of the factors causing the rising level of auto ownership and the total vehicle miles of travel by automobile per family. The next section considers the variables which determine the choice of mode for the journey to work. The final sections examine the nature of the preferences of the population as determinants of residential density and attempts to say something about long run changes in urban form. (BPR Abstract)
