The vibration damping properties of engine mountings in the 10 Hz range have been described by new assessment criterion - the so-called insertion factor. The insertion factor is defined by body vibrations originating from vehicles with rigid engine mounts. This factor has been determined either from direct vehicle measurements or from a combination of measurements on an engine mount test rig and using simple model calculations; a second method includes a possibility of specific matchings of engine mounting characteristics curves to engine bounce.
