An F-16/F101 DFE aircraft weapons system was chosen as a next generation engine and a weapon system performance operability, and engine component life capability was established for it. Using computer models, studies were carried out to quantitatively evaluate the change in these as a function of engine control logic, aircraft mission usage, and aircraft dry weight. The results obtained showed that qualitative trades can be obtained relating aircraft performance, operability, and engine life consumption through choices made in the control logic design.
