The report deals with the evaluation of a hydraulic actuated 'Cascade Side Shift Load Grab' and three different types of gripper attachments for fork trucks. The results of field tests indicate general suitability of the equipment for handling a wide variety on nonpalletized loads with greater labor productivity and time savings. The gripper attachments differ in their versatility and adaptability. From this standpoint the 'Grip-O-Lift' attachment has the greatest applicability in routine Navy warehousing. It can handle palletized as well as nonpalletized loads without the necessity of adding or removing parts of the fork lift truck for different operations. The greatest advantages can be secured by utilizing the equipment in receiving warehouses, such as transit sheds, where a wide diversity of cargo of different shapes and conformations are received on trucks and/or railroad cars.
