The objective of this project was to evaluate the application of non-intrusive technologies for non-contact measurement of truck weight at regular travel speeds. Truck weight is the single most important parameter of interest for compliance issues. In the past, weight was generally measured using static truck scales, where trucks stop on the scale and are weighed. Modern technologies allow weight to be measured while trucks are moving at highway speeds, weigh in motion or WIM. These technologies use embedded sensors in the roadway surface that convert dynamic weight to static loads.
