Mill expenditures for pulpwood in the Southeast decreased by almost 2 percent, or $23.4 million, in 1985. Weighted average price for softwood roundwood rose 45 cents to $54.35 per cord, while that of hardwood dropped 5 cents to $36.70. Transport of pulpwood roundwood, chips, and sawdust by truck continues to increase at the expense of transport by rail.
