Supersonic carriage of the SUU-46/A supersonic high density bomb pod on the centerline station of the F-4C/D aircraft was not possible due to excessive yawing moments from flight loads. This report documents the design and analysis of an aircraft-bomb pod yaw brace (P/N 53-07180-1) that will permit F-4C/D aircraft carriage of the SUU-46/A to acceptable supersonic flight conditions. The study analytically investigated the yaw braced aircraft-SUU-46/A installation for structural adequacy and its effect on aircraft stability. Maximum flight limitations were established using known F-4C/D structural limitations and strength information on the SUU-46/A. The analytical studies indicate safe separation of the 500-pound general purpose supersonic munitions from the SUU-46/A at the F-4C/D centerline station can be accomplished during symmetrical flight, with a vertical load factor of 1-g, over a speed range of 175 KCAS to 750 KCAS or Mach = 1.5 whichever is less.
