In this paper, two well-known methods for inter-turn short circuit (ITSC) detection, i. e. frequency-based and model-based approach are investigated in terms of the application in an electric vehicle (EV) drive. The detecting operation in an EV is simplified by a comparably slow acceleration of the machine rotor. Especially steady-state limited frequency-based approach could benefit from this fact, which consequently will be investigated. Finally, both methods will be applied to an EV drive and the results discussed.
