This paper presents the design of a variable wingspan scroll telescopic wing for multimodal underwater vehicles, enabling the vehicles to adjust their wingspans as needed for optimal maneuverability. Detailed descriptions of the mechanical structure, geometric relationships, and force analysis of the scroll telescopic wing are provided. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations are employed to obtain the hydrodynamic parameters of the multimodal underwater vehicles at different wingspans. Based on steady-state gliding analysis, the gliding characteristics of the vehicles at various wingspans are determined, further leading to the proposal of the wingspan adjustment strategy for the telescopic wing. Preliminary water tank experiments validate the feasibility of the variable wingspan scroll telescopic wing structure and the gliding characteristics of the vehicle at different wingspans.
