This paper investigates the longitudinal string stability of a platoon, which is constituted by two other platoons of two vehicles. String stability conditions in the frequency domain are derived for different inter-platoon communication topologies. By simulations in MATLAB we have identified the communication topology which requires the smallest headway-time for achieving string stability.
