Driver fatigue and intoxication is evident from facial features such as eye and head movement. A driver impairment monitoring system has been designed, constructed and tested by monitoring characteristics like face angle, head movement, and blinking eye. The alcohol sensor (MQ3), the tilt sensor, IR sensor, a camera, GSM module and microcontroller were used this system. When the driver’s closed eyes, head tilt for drowsiness, or alcohol consumption were detected for a certain time, the buzzer alerted the driver, and an SMS was sent to the vehicle owners. The deviations of the face angle were measured with 10 participants and the average accuracy was found to be high.
