Classical radar systems have been designed primarily for military operations. Of late many interesting ways of using radio-frequency spectrum for radar purpose have been under research. One such concept is commensal or passive radar, which uses signals of opportunity to detect targets without affecting the functionality of the parent system. One implementation of the commensal system is the recently active area of Passive Bistatic Radar (PBR). In our work we shall describe a kind of commensal radar which we call communication sensor (CommSense) system. It uses the channel estimation processing in communication systems to estimate changes in the environment. This system can, potentially, be used to monitor land terrain, sea state, or even natural disasters.
