This paper describes the operations of a GPS-based automatic vehicle location and dispatch system for dispatching taxi vehicles and explores the ergonomic factors influencing in-vehicle human-system interactions. The findings suggest that the in-vehicle dispatch device should be ergonomically designed and installed in order to deal with various environmental impacts on dispatch operations. It has practical implications for managing the operations of public transport and other service vehicles.
