The paper presents a method to predict harmonic behaviour of traction currents in underground railway systems. The method is based on modelling and simulation of the complete system taking into account bridges and transformers of the electrical substation, on-board chopper-controlled traction equipment and auxiliary equipments, feeding line and rails. The model is described, its validity within the frequency range is discussed and simulation results are shown for different dc drive control situations in traction and brake.
