The rapid development of vehicle communication systems has brought a new era of intelligent transportation, providing significant enhancements in traffic management, road safety, and driving experience. This work considers a 5G enabled vehicular ad-hoc network (VANET) and evaluates it for two driver models, namely, lane change driver model (LCDM) and collision avoidance driver model (CADM). The performance is obtained for different road scenarios. The traffic efficiency of both models is also obtained and compared with the conventional model. It is observed that LCDM has the traffic efficiency of 85% with the most commonly used and feasible square road scenario at vehicle speed of 15 m/s. Our method improves the precision and promptness of V2V interactions by dynamically adapting to changing traffic volumes and road conditions. In the end, the throughput, latency and packet delivery ratio is also obtained for 5G enabled VANET communication. The results imply that adding 5G new radio (NR) into VANETs can greatly improve traffic safety and efficiency, hence enabling development of intelligent transportation systems.
