Now days the cost of gasoline fuel is increasing drastically Hence the electric vehicle is getting interest for the transportation of the consumers. But the EV Customers are concerned about the range for which the vehicle can move in one charge and also the charging infrastructure of India. Instead of using IC engine, EV uses electric motors for propulsion application. Different electrical motors like Induction Motor, Brushless DC Motor, PMSM, and Switched Reluctance Motor are popular for EVs. From all of these motor, SRM is a most suitable for propulsion application as it provides the same torque characteristics which requires by EV but on the other hand it also generate high amount of torque ripple which will introduce acoustic noise. This paper describes the basic of EV propulsion system, Comparison of EV motors. Also it describes the compatibility of switched reluctance motor for propulsion application.
