The information processing apparatus includes a feature point detector that detects a feature point in a reference image used for self-position estimation of a moving body, an invariance estimating section that estimates invariance of the feature point, and a map generator that generates a map based on the feature point and the invariance of the feature point. The present technology is applicable to, for example, an apparatus or system, which performs self-position estimation of a moving body, or various kinds of moving bodies such as a vehicle.
