The present invention relates to an apparatus for detecting hands-off of a driver and a method thereof. The apparatus comprises: a torque sensor for measuring torque generated by a steering wheel of an automobile; a first filter for removing noise of the torque measured by the torque sensor; a vibration generator for generating a reference vibration on the steering wheel of the automobile; a second filter for extracting the torque in a vibration frequency band from the torque measured by the torque sensor; and a controller for activating the vibration generator and determining whether or not the hands-off of a driver is based on a change amount of the torque which has passed through the second filter, when the change amount of the torque passing through the first filter does not exceed a threshold value.

    본 발명은 운전자의 핸즈오프 검출 장치 및 그 방법에 관한 것으로, 운전자의 핸즈오프 검출 장치에 있어서, 차량의 스티어링 휠에 의해 발생하는 토크를 측정하는 토크 센서; 상기 토크 센서에 의해 측정된 토크의 노이즈를 제거하는 제1 필터; 상기 차량의 스티어링 휠에 기준진동을 발생시키는 진동발생기; 상기 토크 센서에 의해 측정된 토크에서 진동주파수 대역의 토크를 추출하는 제2 필터; 및 상기 제1 필터를 통과한 토크의 변화율이 임계치를 초과하지 않으면, 상기 진동발생기를 활성화한 후 상기 제2 필터를 통과한 토크의 변화량에 기초하여 운전자의 핸즈오프 여부를 판단하는 제어기를 포함한다.
