To shorten a time up to acceleration completion of a vessel.SOLUTION: A vessel propulsion system 100 includes: a main engine 3 generating driving force; a variable pitch propeller 4 rotated by driving force of the main engine 3; and a controller 6 for controlling a rotational speed and a blade angle of the variable pitch propeller 4. The controller 6 executes acceleration control for increasing a speed. The acceleration control includes normal acceleration control for increasing the rotational speed and the blade angle of the variable pitch propeller 4 according to a target speed and priority acceleration control for increasing the rotational speed of the variable pitch propeller 4 compared to the normal acceleration control with priority over the blade angle of the variable pitch propeller 4. The priority acceleration control includes at least one of boost control for pushing up increase in the rotational speed of the variable pitch propeller 4 until a prescribed first completion condition is satisfied and limit control for restricting increase in the blade angle of the variable pitch propeller until a prescribed second termination condition is satisfied.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
