To provide a vehicle periphery recognition system capable of recognizing a target on early stage while suppressing erroneous recognition of the target.SOLUTION: A vehicle periphery recognition system 1 comprises a server device 34 which collects positional information of terminal devices from a plurality of terminal devices and an on-vehicle device 20 which executes processing for recognizing a target which is positioned in the periphery of a self vehicle. The on-vehicle device 20 includes: a setting section 24 for setting a threshold which is used for the recognition processing, the threshold being calculated based on the positional information of the terminal devices positioned in the periphery of the self vehicle; and a recognition processing section 26 by which, in a case where a recognition degree of an object positioned in the periphery of the self vehicle is equal to or more than the threshold, based on a detection result of an on-vehicle target detection sensor, the object is recognized as a target.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
