To provide a control apparatus capable of properly performing an automatic emergency deceleration operation of a saddle-riding type vehicle while securing a rider's comfort, and a control method.SOLUTION: In a control apparatus and a control method according to the present invention, braking force distribution of front and rear wheels is put into an initial state in which a braking force generated for the rear wheel becomes higher than a braking force generated for the front wheel, at a starting point of time when the braking force starts to be generated for the wheel, in the case where an automatic emergency deceleration operation of a saddle-riding type vehicle is performed.
