To provide a self-traveling device and a parallel wire mechanism capable of efficiently moving a moving object to a desired place.SOLUTION: A self-traveling device includes: a pair of wheels 11 which hold a cable C from vertical directions D3 and have a wheel rotation shaft X extending in intersecting directions D2 intersecting an extending direction where the cable C is extended; a wheel rotation mechanism which makes the pair of wheels 11 travel along the cable C by rotating each of the pair of wheels 11 around each wheel rotation shaft X; and a first rotation mechanism which makes the pair of wheels 11 rotate around a first rotation shaft extending along the cable C between the pair of wheels 11. A space 16 where a first cable C1 enters and a groove 17, which is provided on at least one side of the intersecting directions D2 of the space 16 to release a second cable C2 from the space 16, are formed between the pair of wheels 11.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 7
