To provide a manufacturing method or the like of a spline telescopic shaft which can easily form a lubricant sump while maintaining the holding performance of a resin layer with respect to an inner shaft or an outer shaft even if a metal which forms the inner shaft or the outer shaft is liable to be affected by heat.SOLUTION: A manufacturing method of a spline telescopic shaft includes: a missing tooth forming step S2 of forming a recess 44 at least at one of tooth tip faces 42 of a plurality of tooth parts 41 arranged at an external peripheral face of a shaft body 40 being an inner shaft 35; a resin layer forming step S3 of arranging the shaft body 40 in a metal mold 90 having a cavity 91 whose receiving face 92 with respect to the tooth tip face 42 having the recess 44 is flat, and forming a resin layer 50 for covering the plurality of tooth parts 41 by injecting resin into the cavity 91; and a cooling step S4 of cooling the shaft body 40 having the resin layer 50, recessing a portion (an external peripheral face of a charging part 51) corresponding to the recess 44 of the resin layer 50 deeper than other portions, forming a lubricant sump 52, and forming a male spline 37.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 6

    【課題】内軸または外軸を形成する金属が熱の影響を受けやすい金属であっても、内軸または外軸に対する樹脂層の保持性を維持しつつ、潤滑剤溜まりを形成しやすいスプライン伸縮軸の製造方法などを提供する。【解決手段】スプライン伸縮軸の製造方法は、内軸35となる軸体40の外周面に設けられた複数の歯部41の少なくとも一つの歯先面42に対して、凹部44を形成する欠歯形成工程S2と、凹部44を有する歯先面42に対する受け面92がフラットなキャビティ91を有する金型90内に、軸体40を配置し、当該キャビティ91内に樹脂を射出することで、複数の歯部41を覆う樹脂層50を形成する樹脂層形成工程S3と、樹脂層50を有する軸体40を冷却して、樹脂層50における凹部44に対応する箇所(充填部51の外表面)を他の箇所よりも凹ませて潤滑剤溜まり52を形成することで、雄スプライン37を形成する冷却工程S4とを含む。【選択図】図6
