To quickly detect sudden change of speed of a peripheral vehicle.SOLUTION: A vehicle periphery monitoring device 100 comprises: a plurality of sound sensors 102 which are arranged on different positions on a vehicle, collect a sound from a periphery for generating sound collection data SD; an acoustic signal processing part 106 for receiving the sound collection data SD, detecting a target sound indicating sudden deceleration or sudden acceleration of a peripheral vehicle and a generation position thereof, and generating sudden deceleration generation position data PD1 or sudden acceleration generation position data PD2; and a notice signal generation part 108. The notice signal generation part 108 generates a sudden deceleration notice signal S1 when the generation position of the target sound is in a front side of an own vehicle, and on the basis of the sudden acceleration generation position data PD2, generates a sudden acceleration notice signal S2 when the generation position of the target sound is on a side part or a rear side of the own vehicle.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
