To provide a rail vehicle capable of reducing life cycle cost even when it is difficult to secure a mounting space of underfloor equipment because of its small vehicle limit and a method of controlling the rail vehicle.SOLUTION: A railway vehicle 300 includes an air conditioner 100 generating conditioned air supplied to a passenger cabin of the railway vehicle 300 and a propulsion device 110 provided adjacent to the air conditioner 100 under a floor along a longitudinal direction of the railway vehicle 300. The air conditioner 100 changes flow directions of outside air sucked from any of a width direction, an upper side, and a lower side of the railway vehicle 300 and blows out the air to the longitudinal direction of the railway vehicle 300 to cool the propulsion device 110.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2

    【課題】車両限界が小さく床下機器の取り付け空間を確保することが難しい場合であっても、ライフサイクルコストを低減できる軌条車両及び軌条車両の制御方法を提供する。【解決手段】鉄道車両300は、鉄道車両300の客室に供給する調和空気を生成する空調装置100と、前記空調装置100に隣接して備えられるとともに推進装置110と、を前記鉄道車両300の長手方向に沿って床下に備えており、前記空調装置100が前記鉄道車両300の幅方向、上側、下側のいずれかから吸い込んだ外気空気の流れ方向を変えて前記鉄道車両300の長手方向に吹き出すとともに、前記推進装置110を冷却する。【選択図】図2
