PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine start assist mechanism capable of surely starting an internal combustion engine even on a condition at very low temperature or the like, by coupling the internal combustion engine and a starting device without using a V belt and a pulley.SOLUTION: An internal combustion engine start assist mechanism comprises: an elastic member 3 which is mounted between a first support part 1b of a starting device side member 1 and a second support part 2b of an internal combustion engine side member 2 along an internal combustion engine rotation direction and has an energizing force into an internal combustion engine rotation direction 10; a stopper part 2c of the internal combustion engine side member; and an abutment part 1c of the starting device side member which is disposed at a rear side in the internal combustion engine rotation direction rather than the stopper part, is capable of forming a gap 12 between the abutment part and the stopper part during reverse rotations of the starting device side member in the internal combustion engine rotation direction and can be brought into contact with the stopper part during rotations of the starting device side member in the internal combustion engine rotation direction. When the starting device side member is rotated in the internal combustion engine rotation direction after the reverse rotations, the abutment part is brought into contact with the stopper part, rotations of the energizing force of the elastic member are added to the rotations of the starting device side member, and the starting device side member is rotated integrally with the internal combustion engine side member.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1A
