PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shock absorbing member stably plastically deformable at collision while achieving both high EA efficiency and high rigidity.SOLUTION: A shock absorbing member is such that: in a front side frame 2 having a pair of first lateral wall parts 11, and a pair of first vertical wall parts 12 forming in cooperation with the pair of first lateral wall parts 11, a first closed cross section part 10 with a square cross section, extending forward and backward, corner wall parts 23 for forming a second closed cross section part 20 with a square cross section, extending forward and backward, in cooperation with part of the first lateral wall part 11 and part of the first vertical wall part 12 are each provided in four corner parts of the first closed cross section part 10; the corner wall parts 23 in the four corners are separated from each other; and when a dimension of one side of the first closed cross section part 10 is W, a dimension of one side of the second closed cross section part 20 is b, and a plate thickness dimension is t, relational expressions of 0.166≤b2/W2≤0.400 and 0.023≤t/b2≤0.100 are satisfied.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
