PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To strike a balance between acceleration performance and regeneration brake performance in a high-speed range and a loss reduction due to a harmonic current of an AC motor.SOLUTION: An electric power conversion system for a railway vehicle includes a step-up/step-down chopper device 4 on a DC side of an inverter device 6, controls the step-up/step-down chopper device 4 to lower a voltage on the DC side of the inverter device 6 when the inverter device 6 outputs the lowest power, and controls the step-up/step-down chopper device 4 to increase the voltage on the DC side of the inverter device 6 in accordance with an increase of the output power from the inverter device 6.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
