PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high durability steel for a stabilizer in which cost reduction is achieved, and further, in a production process gentle for the global environment, excellent in cold temperature-low temperature toughness at the tensile strength of a 1,200 Mpa class or higher.SOLUTION: Provided is a steel for a stabilizer obtained by molding and quenching a steel having a prescribed componential composition, in which, particularly, the total of a Cu amount and an Ni amount is controlled to 0.15 mass% or higher, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities into a stabilizer shape, and the crystal grain size thereafter lies in the range of 7.5 to 10.5 in an old austenite grain size number.
