An air vent 2 comprises a control support vane 3 and controlled vane 6. The control support vane comprises a control member 4 which is connected to the controlled vane by an extending linkage 8. The extending linkage may extend telescopically. Movement of the control member adjusts the orientation of the controlled vane. The extending linkage is connected to the control support vane and controlled vane by at least two flexible joints 47, 77. The first flexible joint 47 may have one degree of freedom and the second flexible joint 77 two degrees of freedom. The second flexible joint may be a ball and socket joint 77. The control support vane and the controlled vane may each be arranged in an array of vanes which move in tandem. At least part of the control member may be located within a hole (14, Fig.6) entirely within and surrounded by the control support vane. The air vent may be an HVAC air vent for a vehicle. Alternatively, the air vent 2 comprises at least one control support vane 3 supporting a control member 4, at least part of the control member being located at least partially within the control support vane.
