An air vent suitable for use in a vehicle has at least one control support vane 3 comprising a support member 4 that is at least partly within the control support vane. The control support member may comprise a slot or hole that is located in the support vane, the cross-section of the slot being equal in height to a connecting member of the control member and width of the slot is wider than the connecting member to allow for translational movement. The control member may include a control knob 30. The vent may include one or more controlled vanes 7 that are connected to the control member by a telescopic or extendable linkage 8 so that movement of the control vane moves the controlled vanes.
