A retractable fuselage mounted landing gear assembly comprising a drag stay 20 and a landing gear main fitting 26 both attached to a main strut 16 at first ends and connected to the fuselage at second ends. When the landing gear assembly is extended relative to the fuselage, substantially all the landing gear loads are transferred from the landing gear to the fuselage via one or more of the drag stay and the main fitting. Preferably the landing gear main fitting is hinged to pivot about a landing gear axis 50 inclined to longitudinal and lateral aircraft axes. The drag stay may be connected to the wing box, wing rib, or fuselage at a point aft of the wing rear spar and outboard of the fuselage airframe. The drag stay may be folding or telescopic. Preferably the main strut is rotated forward and inboard as the landing gear is retracted.
