A system for autonomous control of an agile imaging satellite, possibly for use in Earth observations, comprising a ground support system and an imaging satellite. The imaging satellite comprises several subsystems including a re-planning subsystem and a task receiver, which is operable to communicate with both a potential user and the ground support system. The re-planning subsystem is used to break down an observation target into multiple tasks and to determine guidance information, such as a visible time window of a target, based on target information, such as the geographic location of said target. The re-planning subsystem is then configured to generate a satellite instruction, which is then transmitted to a satellite subsystem for execution.
