The carrier frequency device comprises preferably at least one communication device (5), in particular in the form of a modem, per car (3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.4, 3.5) of the train (1), said communication device being designed to exchange digital signals with a maser communication device (6) via the provided transmission path. The assembly also comprises a measuring and/or analysis device (7) designed to derive a car sequence from digital signals exchanged via the transmission path between the at least one communication device (5) of each car (3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.4, 3.5) of the train (1) and the master communication device (6), on the basis of propagation times or propagation time differences.
