Method for monitoring a seabed (1) and/or a subsea structure (2), wherein measurement data concerning the seabed (1) and/or the subsea structure (2) is recorded using at least one sensor (4) attached to a ship (5), wherein a database (29) is provided comprising reference data concerning an expected state of the seabed (1) and/or subsea structure (2) or a state of the seabed (1) and/or subsea structure (2) during at least one previous measurement by the same sensor (4) and/or at least one further sensor, wherein part of the reference data is compared and/or merged and/or replaced with the measurement data concerning the same section of the seabed (1) or subsea structure (2) as that part of the reference data to generate output data (30).
