The invention relates to a method for ensuring a flank protection for trains on a track arrangement (1) comprising at least one first and one second track (2, 3), which are brought together at a crossover track (4) equipped with flank protection, at least one signal device (9) on the first track (2) and an additional signal device (12) on the second track (3), and a signal box that is in communicative connection with the one and the additional signal device (9, 12), and with the crossover track (4) equipped with flank protection. In order to increase the operational safety by means of such a method, without disruptive interventions in the execution of the railway traffic, in reaction to a malfunction-caused passing of a train of the one signal device (9) in a stop state detected by the signal box, a command for controlling the additional signal device (12) into a stop-commanding state is issued. The invention further relates to an arrangement for ensuring a flank protection for trains.
