A method of gust speed estimation includes obtaining instantaneous measurement values of aircraft systems, the measurement values comprising an angle-of-attack, AoA, or angle-of-sideslip, AoS, measurement value, a flight altitude measurement value, a flight path angle measurement value and a flight speed measurement value, generating state prediction values based on the obtained instantaneous measurement values, the state prediction values indicating a predicted flight induced AoA/AoS, a predicted flight altitude, a predicted load factor bias, and a predicted gust induced AoA/AoS, generating measurement prediction values based on the generated state prediction values, comparing the generated measurement prediction values with the obtained instantaneous measurement values to obtain a deviation of the generated measurement prediction values from the obtained instantaneous measurement values, and updating the generated state prediction values based on the deviation in order to obtain refined state prediction values.
