The crane system comprises a circular slewing track assembly (1) extending over at least one section of slewing arc around a slewing center (2), and a crane (20) having a crane carriage configured to travel on a track arrangement, a main boom (40), a rear tower (50), an adjustable length arrangement (60) between the rear tower (50) and the main boom (40). The method comprises arranging a connector strut (80) below a horizontal rear tower (50), pivotally connecting an upper end of the connector strut (80), pivoting the rear tower (50) to an inclined raised position, arranging a counterweight (70) at a center of gyration (2), placing the connector strut (80) in a substantially vertical orientation above the counterweight (70), connecting a lower end of the connector strut (80) to the counterweight (70), and raising the main boom (40).
