A collision avoidance device includes a driving support ECU configured to determine a possibility of a collision between a vehicle and an obstacle when it is determined that the obstacle is present in front of the vehicle based on information acquired by an object information acquisition device that acquires information of objects around the vehicle, and to provide a driving support ECU configured to support the collision between the vehicle and the obstacle when it is determined that there is a possibility of a collision between the vehicle and the obstacle, when it is determined that there is a possibility of a collision between the vehicle and the obstacle. When the driving assistance ECU determines that the obstacle is a preceding vehicle which is temporarily stopped and the preceding vehicle is started, the driving assistance ECU executes at least one of a process for changing a determination condition of the possibility so as to easily determine that the obstacle is likely to exist and a process for improving an effect of the response control.
