The invention relates to a vehicle speed planning method and system. The vehicle speed planning method comprises the steps of obtaining motion state data of a vehicle and one or more adjacent vehicles; acquiring map environment data, wherein the map environment data comprises data of a lane where the vehicle is located and data of left and right adjacent lanes; judging whether a lane changing demand exists or not based on the motion state data and the map environment data; if yes, determining a target vehicle with a lane changing demand, and determining a longitudinal distance space required by the target vehicle to complete lane changing; and performing dynamic speed planning based on the motion state data, the map environment data and the longitudinal distance space to generate a final speed planning curve.
