A control device for controlling a vehicle in a first mode of operation of adaptive cruise in which power of the vehicle is controlled based on a difference between a target acceleration and a measured longitudinal acceleration, the device comprising: a receiving unit for receiving driving state information of the vehicle; a determination unit for determining a termination condition of the first operation mode based on the traveling state information; and an operation mode switching unit for switching the first operation mode to a second operation mode different from the first operation mode in response to the termination condition. The first operation mode is switched to the second operation mode in response to the termination condition indicating that the vehicle enters the abnormal working condition, improper control over power of the vehicle in the first operation mode can be avoided, and the comfort level of a user in the driving process can be improved.
