Provided are a rack guide capable of stably supporting a rack while preventing the generation of knocking sound, and a gear mechanism using the rack guide. The rack guide (30) is provided with: a cylindrical synthetic resin rack guide body (31) having a guide surface (310) formed on the distal end surface thereof, the guide surface (310) sliding with respect to the rear surface (22) of the rack (20); synthetic resin support parts (32a, 32b) that protrude from the outer peripheral surface (311) of the rack guide body (31) and are movable in the radial direction of the rack guide body (31); and force applying parts (33a, 33b) which are provided to each of the support parts (32a, 32b), extend in the circumferential direction from both sides of the support parts (32a, 32b) in the circumferential direction of the rack guide main body (31), are connected to the rack guide main body (31), and apply force to the support parts (32a, 32b) toward the outside in the radial direction of the rack guide main body (31) and are made of synthetic resin.
