The invention provides a range extender starting and stopping control method and a range extender, and the range extender starting and stopping control method comprises a starting mode and a stopping mode. In the starting mode, when the range extender controller receives a signal that the range extender needs to be started, the range extender controller sends multiple pieces of first information needed for starting the range extender to the generator controller at the same time; the generator controller judges the multiple pieces of first information and automatically adjusts the output torque used for dragging the range extender to operate according to the judgment result; in the shutdown mode, when the range extender controller receives a signal that the range extender needs to be shut down, the range extender controller sends a plurality of pieces of second information needed for turning off the range extender to the generator controller at the same time; and the generator controller judges the multiple pieces of second information and automatically adjusts the output torque used for driving the range extender to stop according to the judgment result. According to the invention, delay accumulation of multiple signal interactions can be reduced, so that the start-stop process of the range extender is more stable.
