In order to provide improved monitoring, a monitoring device, a changeable surface configuration for an airfoil, an airfoil, an aircraft, and a method for monitoring a plurality of changeable sections of an airfoil are provided. A monitoring device (10) for a plurality of changeable sections of an airfoil includes a plurality of sensor cable sections (12), a plurality of cable connections (14), and a signal data processing unit (16). The sensor cable sections are each configured to: attach between adjacent ones of the plurality of changeable sections; and detecting a spatial relative movement of adjacent variable sections and generating a signal representative of the relative movement. The cable connection is configured to provide a signal of the sensor cable section to the data processing unit. The data processing unit is configured to determine a relative change in the spatial arrangement of the plurality of changeable segments based on the provided signals.
