The invention provides a vehicle cruise control method and device, electronic equipment and a storage medium, and the method comprises the steps: determining the longitudinal distance between a main vehicle and a front vehicle if the front vehicle exists on a lane where the main vehicle is located; when the longitudinal distance between the host vehicle and the side vehicle is smaller than a first safety distance or the longitudinal distance between the host vehicle and the front vehicle is smaller than a second safety distance, the reference vehicle speed of the side vehicle and the speed difference value between the host vehicle and the front vehicle are determined; determining a target vehicle following distance of the host vehicle according to the reference vehicle speed of the side vehicle, the speed difference value between the host vehicle and the front vehicle and a preset longitudinal safe static distance threshold value; according to the speed control evaluation index of the main vehicle, the current vehicle following distance between the main vehicle and the front vehicle is adjusted to the target vehicle following distance. According to the invention, more intelligent and safer vehicle following and speed control are realized, better driving experience is provided for drivers and passengers, and meanwhile, the risk of traffic accidents is effectively reduced.
