The present invention relates generally to rail vehicles and in particular railway rolling stock. In particular, the invention relates to a disconnecting system for an automatic train coupling of a railway vehicle, a train coupling having such a disconnecting system, and a method for disconnecting an automatic train coupling mechanically coupled to a mating train coupling. The invention is characterized in that an actuation request (X-EK) for placing the coupling lock (8) from the coupling position into the disconnection position is specified by an operator, and in that the control device (11) actuates the disconnection device (9) in order to place the coupling lock (8) from the coupling position into the disconnection position as a function of the actuation request (X-EK), the manipulation is carried out only if information is present which confirms the verification of the operation request (X-EK) or after the presence of said information.
