The invention relates to a method for determining an acceleration in a vehicle (100), comprising the following steps: reading in a first input signal (122), which represents a first acceleration, which acts transversely to a vehicle axis (104) at a first location (112) in the vehicle (100) located on the vehicle axis (104), and reading in a second input signal (124), which acts transversely to the vehicle axis (104) at a second location (112) in the vehicle (100) located on the vehicle axis (104); the second input signal represents a second acceleration which acts transversely to the vehicle axis (104) at a second location (114) in the vehicle (100) lying on the vehicle axis (104); and acquiring an output signal representing a translational acceleration acting transversely to the vehicle axis (104) in the vehicle (100) at a position (110) different from the first point (112) and the second point (114). For this purpose, the input signal (122, 124) and the distance between the location (112, 114) and the location (110) along the vehicle axis (104) are used.
